Vanessa Hudgens shows off her singing and acting talents in "Bandslam" (with Official Trailer). 20-year-old Vanessa Hudgens is ready to do something totally different.

In the upcoming comedy "Bandslam," Vanessa plays a high schooler with singing aspirations who teams up with Aly Michalka (of Aly & AJ fame) to enter Bandslam -- dubbed "the biggest musical competition in the country."

While "Bandslam" looks like a lot of fun (think "School of Rock" for the tween set), don't expect the young actress to make a career out of musicals. Like boyfriend Zac Efron -- who dropped out of the "Footloose" remake -- Vanessa's looking to shed her wholesome image.

What's next for Vanessa? "Sucker Punch," a fantasy thriller about young girls trying to escape a mental institution. "People, I think, are going to be genuinely shocked," Hudgens says about the dark role. "It's about these girls in a mental institution that in their heads gets turned around to be a brothel. And in the meanwhile [sic] they are kicking serious [butt]. They're killing people with machine guns. It's crazy."

If sex and violence don't change people's perceptions of her, perhaps nudity will. Online she would "strip for an amazing movie role." Then again, naked photos of the star have already circulated the web. Regardless, Vanessa will be getting lots of screen time in the future. Just not as Gabriella Montez.
