Kimverly Molina: Pinay singer wins the title “2009 Grand Champion Senior Vocalist of the World" at the WCOPA in the US

Kimverly Molina: Pinay singer wins the title “2009 Grand Champion Senior Vocalist of the World" at the WCOPA in the US. Following her victory at the 13th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in the United States, the next stop for 18-year-old Kimverly Molina is the Philippines. Kimverly, who has been living in Saudi Arabia with her parents since she was four years old, told radio dzMM that there are offers for her to do some projects in the country. Kimverly, however, declined to discuss in detail these projects so as not to pre-empt them. “We do have plans [to go to the Philippines]. May naka-line up na po.

Hopefully, matuloy ang mga plano. Hindi pa po kami magme-mention pero we do have plans,” she said. The singer is still on cloud nine after bagging the “2009 Grand Champion Senior Vocalist of the World" title. She said she is “happy, very excited” and still “floating right now.” She sailed through tough qualifying and semi-final rounds against more than a hundred other vocalists from around the world. “Everything’s really blanko lang po. Thank you everybody for the support. And I’m really overwhelmed right now, so thank you,” she said. Kimverly captured the hearts of the judges with her rendition of “New York, New York.”

The talented 18-year-old singer confessed though that what was “weird” was that she did not know the whole lyrics of her winning song. “Hindi ko memorized first part of the song. I just memorized iyong mga high tones sa last part. Two weeks ko lang siyang na-memorize,” she said. In the final round, she bested five other contestants from Russia, Malaysia, Sweden and two other Filipinos to finally get the top award in the senior vocals category. She recalled that, instead of fretting when she entered the final round, she decided to just enjoy the experience and have fun. Singing since 2 yrs old Kimverly, according to father Dr. Ronaldo Molina, began singing at the age of 2.

“Napakahilig niyang kumanta. [Noong] 2 years old [pa lang siya diyan] sa Pilipinas nakitaan namin siya ng potential. Kinuha ko siya sa Saudi para magabayan ko siya,” said Ronaldo, who is also Kimverly’s voice coach. She was four years old when she joined her father in Saudi. Kimverly has been staying in the Middle East for more than a decade now and knows only a little of the Filipino language. Ronaldo said she is studying in an international school in Saudi. Aside from American songs, she can also perform Arabic songs, Ronaldo boasted. He added that he and his wife are ecstatic that she won in the prestigous competition in the US. Kimverly was 14 when she first rose to stardom in the Middle East region after winning ABS-CBN’s "TFC Popstar" Grand Middle East Championship in Dubai in 2006.
