Storm Brings Funnel Cloud formed over Broomfield

Storm Brings Funnel Cloud formed over Broomfield. In Denver, a funnel cloud formed over Broomfield Tuesday afternoon, two days after a series of tornadoes tore up parts of the metro Denver area. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of north eastern Colorado after the funnel cloud was seen around 4:40 p.m. That warning has since expired. The funnel cloud was seen over Thornton and Broomfield.

Robin Hoffman was on northbound Interstate 25, headed to Johnstown, when she saw the funnel cloud."It was only there for a brief couple of moments," Hoffman said. "There were a lot of people on I-25 pulling over and taking pictures and watching it. ... It was nowhere near the ground."7NEWS MyReporters sent in photos of the funnel cloud, which stretched horizontally across the sky but never appeared to touch the ground.A law enforcement officer reported that a funnel touched down in Firestone, but that has yet to be confirmed by the National Weather Service.

No injuries or damage has been reported.Jennifer Parys said she saw the funnel cloud from her office in Thornton. The cloud appeared for a few minutes and "then I watched it suck itself in," she said.Heavy rain drenched the town of Evans."We probably got an inch or more in an hour," said David Bradley, owner of 85 Liquor. The parking lot outside Bradley's store turned into a lake, forcing him to close his doors as town officials blocked off access to his lot."Evans built all these houses to the West with no consideration for drainage," said Bradley.

"The water runs down hill and guess who is at the bottom of the hill? Me."The severe weather came only two days after a series of storms produced five tornadoes from Boulder County to Aurora. The Sunday tornado in Aurora damaged the Southlands Mall and caused one serious injury and a few minor injuries.
