Survivor Philipines Episode 1: The game begins

Episode 1: The game begins

Aboard a helicopter, Paolo Bediones went around Koh Tarutao, an island in the southern Thailand, the location for Survivor Philippines. Despite dangers like poisonous snakes and man-eating crocodiles, the island's beauty is breath-taking.

Meanwhile, the 18 castaways were on a Thai fishing boat thinking they were being transported to an island for a press interview and photo shoot. So they were surprised when Thai traditional drummers and dancers on longtail boats arrived and sailed around their fishing boats and Paolo suddenly appeared in one of the sea vessels. He announced that the game was about to start.

Paolo ordered the castaways to jump from the fishing boat and swim to the shore, which was one kilometer away. The first castaway to reach the beach was going to win a special reward while the one who will not make it was going to be automatically eliminated.

Many were good swimmers, but going against the ocean's strong currents was tiring and most of the castaways were exhausted half the way.

Gym instructor Jace led the pack, followed by Laundry Woman Zita. Some of the castaways almost drowned. Fortunately, businessman Kiko saved three of them: Ex-GRO Chev, Call Center Agent Nikki and Farmer Girl Vevherly. Waiter Marlon also asked for help from Kiko. Nearby, Sales Associate Rob clang to the back of Lingerie Model Kaye. Driver Cris and Sewing Machine Technician Emerson experienced cramps. Although they swam slowly, Taekwondo Champion Veronica, Auto Mechanic John, Telecom Officer Charisse and Web Designer Gigit made progress.

Jace and Zita were the first two to reach the shore. They were followed by Basketball Player JC. The last castaway to make it was Operations Manager NiƱa.

When Paolo arrived, he divided the 18 castaways into two teams. The men became the Jarakay tribe and the women comprised the Naak tribe. Since Jace was the one to reach the shore first, his tribe got the bigger camp.

The castaways were shocked when Paolo told them that they were going to do their first reward challenge: the chained together relay.

Chained together, each tribe crossed a slippery balance beam. Then they chained themselves in pairs for the zip line. In the last part of the relay, the tribes were tasked to complete a picture using 16 puzzle pieces. In the end, Jarakay won the challenge.

Carrying their crates, both tribes tried to build shelter and looked for food. Since nightfall was near and rain started to pour, both tribes decided to stop building shelter and just sleep with their ponchos on.

It was a very difficult night for most of the castaways. If it weren't for the three million peso tax free cash prize and the honor of being called the first Pinoy Sole Survivor, some of them would have quit this early in the game.
