Filed against Claudine Barretto dismissed. Former aide Nancy Cruz, filed against actress Claudine Barretto in 2008, the Quezon City prosecutor's office was dismissed the complaint.
Cruz accused Barretto of not reporting her employment to the Social Security System (SSS). She also alleged that Barretto did not give her financial aid during her pregnancy.
Barretto had denied the charge. The actress said it was Cruz who initially did not want to be registered with the SSS, only to inform her later that she (Cruz) had already enrolled with a P2,500 monthly contribution.
In a resolution, assistant city prosecutor Leonardo Raul Gonzales junked the complaint filed by Cruz for "lack of probable cause."
The assistant city prosecutor pointed out that Cruz's complaint was not referred to the SSS, which could have verified if Barretto did or did not comply with the Social Security Act.
Just recently, the actress figured in another controversy when she signed up for a two-film contract with Viva Films.
For so long, Barretto had worked with Star Cinema, ABS-CBN's film outfit.
According to the actress, the move was meant to express her desire "for freedom." "It's time I take some risks," she said.
Mar Roxas & Korina Sanchez Wedding (w/ video and photos). In Manila, Philippines, Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II and broadcaster Korina Sanchez on Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2009) afternoon exchanged "I do's" at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City. The ceremony started at 4 p.m. Tuesday as thousands of guests and well-wishers arrived to witness the union.
Crowds outside the church cheered and shouted "Korina!" as Sanchez, wearing a Filipiniana gown, stepped out of the bridal car. A white sheet held up by several ushers prevented people from seeing Sanchez until the start of her bridal march.
The Philippine Madrigal Singers sang “Ave Maria” as the entourage marched toward the altar.
As she was walking down the aisle with his brother, Sanchez shed tears of joy while Ray An Fuentes' “Umagang Kay Ganda” was being played in the background. Roxas, who was waiting at the altar, was also seen wiping away tears.
In his homily, Fr. Tito Caluag reminded the couple to love and serve one another throughout their married lives. "I believe that giving one's self to love brings blessing to one's self and to society," he said.
Wedding vows
In his wedding vow, Roxas described his bride as "God's precious gift."
"Korina, I take you as God's precious gift. I love you as you are. You are precious to me. I am happy we are together and truly thank you for taking me and putting up with me. I give myself to you as your best friend, to applaud when you succeed and encourage when you stumble. I offer myself to you as your husband in respect and in trust. Today I take you to be my wife. I promise to be with you and be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love and honor you all the days of my life," he said.
In turn, Korina said Roxas was the fulfillment of everything she ever wanted in a husband.

Paolo Contis and Lian Paz pregnancy. Actor Paolo Contis has finally confessed on showbiz-oriented TV show, ''Startalk,'' that his girlfriend, former EB Babe Lian Paz is, indeed, four months pregnant.
'Wala naman kaming balak na itago,'' said Paolo, refuting write-ups that he allegedly refuses to take responsibility of the baby.
Lian said she is having difficulty with the first trimester of her pregnancy because of her ovarian cyst.
''Medyo nahirapan akong mag-buntis, [tapos] mababa 'yung progesterone ko so kailangan ko ng pampakapit,'' said she.
Paolo added that his mother already knows about Lian's condition.
''Ang mommy ko quiet lang 'yun. Of course it would take time [bago niya matanggap]. Matagal na hindi sila nagkausap, tapos maraming nang-iintriga...
''But I was there [nung magkita sila]. I'm very, very happy,'' he related.
The couple will know whether their baby is boy or girl within two weeks. Lian said either gender is okay. ''Basta healthy 'yung baby.''
Nancy Castiglione's message for Paolo and Lian
Nancy Castiglione congratulated ex-boyfriend Paolo Contis and girlfriend Lian Paz for their baby. She also gave the two an advice.
''Be patient with each other and make sure you instill faith in your baby,'' said she.
Earlier this year, Nancy herself gave birth to twin boys, Mateo and Joaquin.

Watch John & Edward X Factor performance "Oops I Did It Again":
If X Factor is about fun then the twins are the winners! The X Factor's MOST famous associate, Simon Cowell, it's hard to say whether or not he's a fan of the "double divas from Dublin." Yes, Simon did declare their Saturday night Britney routine "THE WORST LIVE PERFORMANCE" he'd ever seen in the entire history of The X Factor, and likened it to something out of The Exorcist. (The X-orcist Factor? That has a nice ring to it; I predict/pray for a John & Edward spinoff show) But he also said the twins' fun and fearless performance had made him like them more (they'd had "likability issues" on past episodes, due to their constant sassing back to the judges). And coming from Simon, that is high praise indeed.
Shakira Disguise like a boy to take history class at UCLA. Shakira, the Columbian-bred international pop star revealed her successful game plan. Shakira take a summer history class at UCLA by disguising look like a boy and using of her middle names Isabel.
"I used to wear a cap and a big backpack," Shakira explained. "I looked like a boy. I didn't get recognized."
When onlookers got suspicious and inquired whether or not she was the "Hips Don't Lie" singer, she told them that her name was Isabel, which is actually one of her middle names.
Her simple plan worked. Professor Robert Cleve, who taught the Introduction to Western Civilization: Ancient Civilizations from Prehistory to Circa A.D. 843 class, had no idea "Isabel" was actually a pop star.
"She told me she was visiting from Colombia and that she was just doing this for her own enlightenment and enjoyment," Cleve told the Associated Press in 2007. "She looked like just an ordinary student. She wasn't flamboyant...she didn't act like a big celebrity or anything."
The singer, whose song "She Wolf" is No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, sat near the front of the class and regularly stayed afterwards to ask questions, Cleve added. "I was really impressed with how intelligent she was," he said.
Shakira decided to take the class after wrapping the tour for her album, "Oral Fixation."
When most celebs need a break from the business, they typically take a real vacation. They travel to a remote destination, relax, and clear their minds.
But Shakira said challenging her mind instead was the ideal getaway after the tour.
"It was such a long tour, I needed a break from me," Shakira told The Guardian. "The universe is so broad, I cannot be at the center of it. So I decided to go to the university and study history for a summer course, just to kind of switch gears, taste the student life."
Shakira has been known to spend her spare time studying, and learning about the countries she visits, her manager Fifi Kurzman told The Associated Press.
While Shakira did not attend the last few classes, she told The Guardian that she enjoyed the experience. "I would go to the university over and over again if I could," Shakira said.

Russian Roulette Lyrics
Take a breath, take it deep Calm yourself, he says to me If you play, you play for keeps Take a gun, and count to three I’m sweating now, moving slow No time to think, my turn to go
[Chorus -- JustJared.com] And you can see my heart beating You can see it through my chest And I’m terrified but I’m not leaving Know that I must must pass this test So just pull the trigger
Say a prayer to yourself He says close your eyes Sometimes it helps And then I get a scary thought That he’s here means he’s never lost
(Chorus)
As my life flashes before my eyes I’m wondering will I ever see another sunrise? So many won’t get the chance to say goodbye But it’s too late too pick up the value of my life

Signs of a Facebook addict. Psychologists prove that the "facebook users" has a new kind of addiction called Facebook Addiction Disorder (FAD). FAD could be classified under the more broad "internet addiction disorder" or internet overuse.
Joanna Lipari, a clinical psychologist at the University of California, Los Angeles who was interviewed for a CNN report, here are some signs that you are addicted to Facebook:
1. You lose sleep over Facebook. When using Facebook becomes a compulsion and you spend entire nights logged on to the site, causing you to become tired the next day.
2. You spend more than an hour a day on Facebook. Lipari said it is difficult to define how much is too much when it comes to Facebook usage, but that an average person need only spend half an hour on the site.
3. You become obsessed with old loves or exes you reconnect with on Facebook.
4. You ignore work in favor of Facebook. This means you do not do your job in order to sneak time on Facebook.
5. The thought of getting off Facebook leaves you in cold sweat. If you try going a day without Facebook and it causes you stress and anxiety, this means you need help.
According to Elizabeth Cohen, Senior CNN Medical Correspondent, Facebook addiction is not yet an actual medical diagnosis.

Spanish police were alerted at 1:45 pm. The cause of death has yet to be determined, although it was reported that he had "gone out for drinks, returned to his accommodation and fallen asleep, but never woke up." He was found squatting in an awkward way on a sofa, dressed in his pyjamas.
Police said they had no reason to believe the death was related to abuse of substances such as drugs or alcohol and no suicide note or signs of violence were located on the corpse. The Gately family have enlisted celebrity solicitor Gerald Kean as their official spokesperson; Kean ruled out foul play and suicide, describing it as "just a tragic accident".
Fans responded with messages of sympathy on the social networking website Facebook. Boyzone manager Louis Walsh is quoted as saying: "We're all absolutely devastated. I'm in complete shock. I was only with him on Monday at an awards ceremony. We don't know much about what's happened yet. He was 33 years of age, 15 years at the top, a fine musician, it's just a huge tragedy to Irish entertainment, Irish music and further afield as well".
Minester for Arts, Sport and Tourism Martin Cullen paid tribute: "Stephen Gately was a gifted young man with a talent for singing which brought him tremendous success as a member of Boyzone and also as a West End star. There was a joy about his music making, and his death at such a young age is both a personal and professional loss".
Andrew Lloyd Webber said it is "a great loss to the musical world".Elton John said he and his partner David Furnish were "stunned" when they heard the news. Katherine Jenkins twittered of "memories 2 cherish" from a night out in the weeks leading up to his death. Stephen Fry described Gately's demise as "a dreadful shock". "This was not supposed to happen. This was not in the script", said music historian Paul Gambaccine.
Gately's bandmates flew out to Majorca on 11 October 2009. Louis Walsh is expected to join them soon. The surviving members of Boyzone, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating and Shane Lynch issued a joint statement:
We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen's family. We love you and will miss you forever, 'Steo'.

Beyonce Knowles: Billboard's Woman of the Year story. On Oct. 2 Beyonce accepts Billboard's Woman of the Year Award. The presentation will be made at Billboard's Women in Music brunch in New York, recognizing the year's top 30 women in the music business.
Manager and father Mathew Knowles, he first met Fierce. A 7-year-old Beyoncé was entered in a talent search open to Houston elementary and middle school students. The song she sang? John Lennon's "Imagine." "Beyoncé was the youngest," Knowles says. "She got up onstage and when she was finished, she received a standing ovation. Her mother [Tina Knowles] and I looked at each other and said, 'That can't be our Beyoncé. She's shy and quiet.' "
Twenty-two years later, that simmering brew of shy, quiet talent peppered with fierce determination and ambition is at a boiling point. The former frontwoman of Destiny's Child has come into her own, enjoying one of the best years of a still-evolving solo career.
"Beyoncé is a multiplatinum artist and a multitalented woman who clearly embodies the qualities of excellence and achievement that the Billboard Woman of the Year Award was created to honor," Billboard editorial director Bill Werde says. "She has not only influenced pop culture with her hit songs and her signature dance moves, but has inspired women everywhere with her unique style, business savvy and dedication to charitable causes."
In the past 12 months alone, Beyoncé has accomplished several career milestones. She not only sang "American the Beautiful" during the opening ceremony of the 2009 presidential inauguration, she also sang the Etta James hit "At Last" as President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama danced their first dance at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball.
In March Beyoncé launched her worldwide I Am...tour, which has grossed some $53.5 million to date, according to Billboard Boxscore. She's also the star and executive producer of the 2009 film "Obsessed," which opened at No. 1 and has grossed more than $68.3 million in North America, according to Nielsen EDI.
"I Am...Sasha Fierce" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 when it was released by Columbia Records in November. The album, the singer's third solo set, has spun off a string of Billboard Hot 100 hits: "If I Were a Boy," "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," "Halo," "Ego" and "Sweet Dreams."
After accepting MTV's video of the year award for her iconic "Single Ladies" video a few weeks ago, Beyoncé gained a new level of fan and industry respect at the Sept. 13 event when she unselfishly brought Taylor Swift back onstage to complete the acceptance speech cut off by Kanye West's surprise interruption.
Beyoncé also continued her commitment this year to ongoing philanthropic projects and entrepreneurial activities from fashion to fragrances.
"She's incredibly creative," says Rob Stringer, chairman of Sony Music Label Group. "She also works phenomenally hard to create the opportunities she has. People tend to think there's always an image-maker behind female pop stars. That's not the case with Beyoncé. There's no element of diva or difficulty about her; she takes control of the process and makes it happen. She's grown beautifully in that role."
Typhoon "Pepeng": Hits northeastern Luzon, 4 people killed. Typhoon "Pepeng" hits the areas in northeastern Luzon shrouded into darkness, unleashed its wrath, carrying strong winds that killed at least four people, displaced hundreds, destroyed agricultural crops, and made major thoroughfares impassable beginning Saturday afternoon.
In Cagayan, at least 6,236 people in 39 barangays (villages) were affected, while P20.33 million worth of agricultural produce were destroyed after Pepeng, the 16th weather disturbance that hit the country made landfall in the province at 3 p.m. The information came from Cagayan police chief Moro Virgilio Lazo.
Pepeng packed maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 210 kph, making it the strongest typhoon that battered the country in three years.
“Chaos" was all over Cagayan, according to Aileen Torres, provincial administrator of the Philippine National Red Cross. “The winds and rains are so strong. Power is out and we are relying on generators," she said.
Cristine Reyes: Life is short, cherish every moment. Cristine Reyes was back yesterday where she had her most traumatic experience in typhoon "Andoy". After she was rescued by Patient X co-star Richard Gutierrez from the roof of her house in Provident Village, Marikina City.
From Provident Village, Richard brought Cristine to her sister Ara Mina’s house in Quezon City. Shortly after, Cristine’s mom and her two pamangkin arrived on jetskis, saved by friends of Ara’s non-showbiz boyfriend.
Cristine and family saved nothing, neither their car nor their appliances nor their personal belongings, nothing!
“The experience was an eye-opener,” said Cristine who showed up at yesterday’s lunch wearing a white long-sleeved shirt (among the few retrieved from her closet) and denim pants given to her by Liz Uy. “I realized that material things are nothing; they have no value. You can lose them and replace them. Life is more precious. Once lost, wala na, hindi na maibabalik. I used to be secretive and sensitive. After that nightmare on Sept. 26, my outlook in life has changed. I look at life differently now. Life is short, every moment is precious. Enjoy it to the fullest with your loved ones because you can never tell kung kelan ka mawawala.”
