57th FAMAS Special Awardees

57th FAMAS Special Awardees. Headed by president of FAMAS board of directors, Angelo "Eloy" Padua, chosen the following personages, for their outstanding contribution to the Philippine movie industry:

Carlo J. Caparas and Donna Villa who will receive the Presidential Award for contributing exceptional talent in comics writing and movie directing, and producing, respectively;

Alice H. Reyes is this year's Atty. Flavio Macaso Memorial Awardee for her utmost loyalty and service to the academy. The award is given in honor of the first FAMAS president. Ms. Reyes has been a member of this long-running award-giving body since the '70s.

Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. will receive the Fernando Poe, Jr. Memorial Award for his outstanding performance in the action genre intensified by his over-flowing charisma, great physique and loyal following that made him a great icon just like the late movie king.

Junne Quintanna will receive the Dr. Jose R. Perez Memorial Award. Quintana who started his writing career in the early '70s is also a talent manager, publicist of celebrities, public relations officer of movie outfits and recording companies for which he demonstrated great mastery and professionalism. Quintana is a graduate of Journalism and Communication Arts from the University of Sto. Tomas.

Ms. Delia Razon, a veteran actress of note, is the Lifetime Achievement Awardee for having contributed her acting prowess to the movie industry throughout the years. Ms. Razon is the "Lady of the Costumed Pictures" during her prime as an LVN Pictures contract artist.

Ms. Gloria Romero, for her durability as a movie personality, prompted the FAMAS board of directors to unanimously choose her to be the recipient of this once in a lifetime award, the Huwarang Bituin, which is only given to select artisans who serve as role models among movie celebrities.

Sarah Geronimo is the Golden Artist Awardee. The talented song artist was chosen for this special award because of the many recognition she has earned for artistic excellence both as singer and actress.

Gov. Vilma Santos of Batangas Province will receive the Exemplary Achievement Award for her unparalleled accomplishment both in the movie and TV industries as well as in public service.

Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal are the recipients of the German Moreno Achievement Award. They were chosen by the Master Showman German Moreno himself for their popularity and success as young artists.

FAMAS will also award two Special Citations during its 57th Gabi ng Parangal which will be held Sunday night at the Pagcor Grand Theatre in Paranaque.

The recipients are:

Coun. Ariel Enrile Inton, Jr. who is being recognized for authoring an ordinance in Quezon City titled "Zero % Amusement Tax," abolishing the taxes levied on local movies shown in the city. Councilor Inton is also very supportive to the objectives of Mowelfund that has more than 10,000 beneficiaries, mostly small movie workers, in its fold.

Corazon Pastrana is being cited for promoting Filipino movies in particular and Philippine culture in general in Los Angeles, California. She founded the Cinema Indio Film Festival seven years ago that exhibits highly artistic films from the Philippines. Ms. Pastrana is a showbiz writer and has been a member of the FAMAS long before her migration to the United States.

The late Roland Dantes who recently passed away is posthumously recognized for his achievements by propagating the only Filipino martial arts, Arnis, throughout the world via the motion pictures both in the country and in Hollywood where he pitted talents with international thespians. This particular sport is currently a craze in European countries especially in Russia.
