Jinkee Pacquiao on $2.3M L.A. home on YES! magazine

Jinkee Pacquiao on $2.3M L.A. home on YES! magazine. After the historical fight of her husband, Manny Pacquio, against Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto last November, Jinkee Pacquiao welcomed YES! magazine in her Los Angeles home two days.

While telling her side of the story about the alleged affair of her husband with sexy star Krista Ranillo, the wife of pound-for-pound boxing king toured YES! team in their two-story, four-bedroom home in the upscale neighborhood of Hancock Park in Los Angeles, California.

Bought in March 2008, Jinkee said that she and Manny decided to buy their own house so they wouldn't have to live in a hotel whenever the boxing champ has a fight in the States.

Although their Spanish-inspired house looked very elegant, Manny's wife said she did not mind too much about the brand while fixing its black-and-white themed interiors. When she shopped for their house fixtures, Jinkee just checked out on their look, functionality, and price. "Halo dito, e. May konting mamahalin, meron namang hindi pero bagay siya sa bahay," she said.

Jinkee also made sure that there would be a touch of Pinoy inside and outside their house. In their living room, a native abaca droplights are hanging from the ceiling, while their backyard is surrounded with Japanese bamboo and their lawn is planted with carabao grass.

After buying the house, Jinkee said that she has an additional purpose for coming to California from time to time. She told YES!, "Dati, puro pasyal-pasyal, ganyan. Pero ngayon, ang purpose ko na, bisitahin ko itong bahay. Kailangan kong tingnan kung maayos."

Take a peek inside Pacquiao's residence in Los Angeles through YES! magazine's Celebrity Home feature in its January 2010 issue, now available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide.

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight, Las Vegas site

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight, Las Vegas site. The Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight did land in Las Vegas on March 13, 2010.

“As far as we know it’s always been Vegas,” said Pacquiao’s adviser, Mike Koncz, yesterday when news broke out that promoters have already agreed to stage the fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Koncz, who was with Pacquiao yesterday afternoon, said he expects an announcement to come very soon as to the final details of the fight that is scheduled to take place on March 13.

The state-of-the-art Cowboys Stadium in Dallas made a spirited bid to host the fight, probably the biggest in boxing history, and owner Jerry Jones reportedly made a $25 million offer to get it there.

But Vegas is just the place to hold a fight of this magnitude.

“There’s no other place to hold it than Vegas. With all the casinos and the high-rollers coming over, it’s just hard to match. Nasa Vegas ang pera (The money is in Vegas),” said Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal.

“It’s the MGM. It’s definite,” an article that came out of fanhouse.com quoted a source as saying, and that the choice was based on both fighters’ “familiarity with the location as well as their past success there.”

According to reports, the MGM Grand could generate as much as $28 million in live-gate sales. Also in store are 40,000 closed-circuit seats through MGM/Mirage properties, and at $100 a head could present a total package of $32 million.

And that’s enough to quash Dallas’ $25 million offer.

Pacquiao has fought six times at the MGM Grand, winning four (against Lehlo Ledwaba, Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto), losing once to Erik Morales and drawing once with Juan Manuel Marquez.

Mayweather, on the other hand, has fought six times at the MGM during his unbeaten run of 40 fights. His wins at MGM came against Gregorio Vargas, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Dela Hoya, Hatton and Marquez.

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is expected to generate more than $100 million, and both fighters, guaranteed of at least $25 million each, could get as much as $40 million when everything comes in.

A press conference, a major one, is scheduled Jan. 6 in New York and two days after another one will take place in Los Angeles. There will be no press tour for this fight which the whole world wants to see.

The fight is set at 147 lb and Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight crown, which he took from Cotto last month, will be at stake. They will use 8-ounce gloves, and both camps have also agreed to random drug testing weeks leading to the fight.

There’s no confirmation whether both fighters have signed the fight contract, but now that it’s all been agreed upon, there’s no reason for them to hold back and get it done.

U.S. fame actress Brittany Murphy died at 32

U.S. fame actress Brittany Murphy died at 32. At the age of 32 Britany Murphy died, who gained fame in such movies as "8 Mile" and "Just Married" before giving voice to popular animated characters, has died at age 32.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office said her death Sunday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center appeared to be from natural causes but police were investigating.

Murphy was transported to the hospital after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at 8 a.m. at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.

An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," Winter said. He said an autopsy was planned for Monday or Tuesday.

Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into Murphy's death, Officer Norma Eisenman said. Detectives and coroner's officials were at Murphy and Monjack's home Sunday afternoon but did not talk to reporters. Paparazzi were camped outside the multistory home, located above the Sunset Strip.

Neighbor Clare Staples said she saw firefighters working to resuscitate the actress Sunday morning. She said Murphy was on a stretcher.

Murphy's husband, wearing pajama bottoms and no shoes, appeared "dazed" as firefighters tried to save her, Staples said. "It's just tragic," she added.

TMZ first reported Murphy's death Sunday morning.

Murphy's publicist, Nicole Perna, said in a statement: "In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy."

Messages left for Murphy's manager and agent by The Associated Press were not immediately returned.

Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, said he learned of her death from his son, the actress's brother, and was stunned.

"She was just an absolute doll since she was born," Bertolotti said from his Branford, Fla., home. "Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her — people that made movies with her, people on a cruise — they all loved her. She was just a regular gal."

He said he hadn't heard much about the circumstances of Murphy's death. Bertolotti divorced her mother when Murphy was young and hadn't seen Murphy in the past few years.

"She was just talented," Bertolotti said. "And I loved her very much."

Born Nov. 10, 1977, in Atlanta, Murphy grew up in New Jersey and later moved with her mother to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Her career started in the early 1990s with small roles in television series, commercials and movies. She is best known for parts in "Girl, Interrupted," "Clueless" and "8 Mile."

Her on-screen work had lessened of late, but Murphy's voice gave life to numerous animated characters, including Luanne Platter on more than 200 episodes of Fox's "King of the Hill" and Gloria the penguin in the 2006 feature "Happy Feet."

She is due to appear in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming film, "The Expendables," set for release next year.

Her role in "8 Mile" led to more recognition, Murphy told AP in 2003. "That changed a lot," she said. "That was the difference between people knowing my first and last name as opposed to not."

Murphy credited her mother, Sharon, with being a key to her success.

"When I asked my mom to move to California, she sold everything and moved out here for me," Murphy said. "I was really grateful to have grown up in an environment that was conducive to creating and didn't stifle any of that. She always believed in me."

She dated Ashton Kutcher, who costarred with Murphy in 2003's romantic comedy "Just Married."

Kutcher sent a message on Twitter Sunday morning about Murphy's death: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine," Kutcher wrote. "My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon."

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Derek Ramsay is willing to marry Angelica Panganiban

Derek Ramsay is willing to marry Angelica Panganiban. We all know that Derek Ramsay is Angelica Panganiban's boyfriend. Derek Ramsay seems to be the ultimate boyfriend.

His generosity, not only with material things, has been gaining for him ''pogi'' points among women out there.

You will remember that Derek has been figuring in the news about the ''awesome'' extravagant gifts he's been showering his girlfriend Angelica Panganiban - a mini-Cooper, designer bags, trips, among so many other things.

In one interview with Derek before, he told us he is one guy who is not particularly convinced that a couple in love's final destination should be togetherness in marriage. He said he has seen so much of broken relationships, mostly from married people, that is why he doesn't believe that a union in that context would guarantee the longevity of the relationship.

But because he cares for and loves his girlfriend Angelica Panganiban so much, he said he is willing to give Angelica a wedding because he knows how important that is to the actress. ''If that is the one thing that I can offer Angelica to make her happiness complete, then, by all means I am willing to give her that,'' he said during the press conference for his latest movie, ''I Love You Goodbye,'' Star Cinema's official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival. Derek and Angelica are starring in this Laurice Guillen-directed film which also casts Gabby Concepcion and Kim Chiu.

He confirmed that they have been talking about marriage but where and when will that take place exactly, that is still a question.

Derek candidly talked about their romantic scenes in ''I Love You Goodbye.'' He said, ''I must admit that it is easy to lose yourself in scenes like that with Angelica. The setting naman kasi is so romantic.''

He commented his girlfriend Angelica for her worth as an actress. ''She is a very good actress. At first it confuses me to see Angelica turn into a different person when in front of the camera. But she is good,'' he said.

Derek is so thankful that he is considered to be one of ABS-CBN's prized talents at this point in his career. ''This has been a very good year for me. I have been so blessed and I am very thankful to ABS-CBN for all of these,'' he said.

''I Love You Goodbye,'' after its run in the MMFF season this Christmas, will be going to the US to premiere on Jan. 8-14 in the following cities: San Diego, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Seattle, Jersey City, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Manny Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee thanks Gina Alajar for advice

Manny Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee thanks Gina Alajar for advice. For advice on Facebook relating to the rumored romance between Manny and Krista Ranillo, Manny Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, thanked director-actress Gina Alajar.

''Dun ako nagpapasalamat sa concern niya sa'kin kahit di naman kami magkakilala talaga. Thank you sa message mo, sa concern mo sa'kin,'' Mrs. Pacquiao told Butch Francisco in an interview on ''Startalk.''
She also advised ''legal wives'' to hold on to their family when suspicious affairs exist.

''Ipaglaban mo kung anong meron ka. Kailangan walang aagaw. Kailangan nag-iisa ka lang sa asawa mo,'' she said firmly.

Jinkee said the allegations about her husband and Krista are not true.

''Wala [silang relasyon].

She belied chitchats that she bribed the starlet with five million pesos to stay away from the pound per pound king.

''Hindi [totoo]. I'm not begging for love, or para layuan ang asawa ko. Ano siya sinusuwerte?'' quipped Jinkee.

Jinkee wishes that the controversy will serve as a valuable lesson to Krista.

''Kay Krista, good luck na lang sa'yo. Sana maging lesson sa'yo 'to, [at] sana maging happy ka na.''

Pacman's wife said overcoming the scandal strengthened their communication lines.

''Okay naman [kami], pag may problemang konti, napag-uusapan. Pag may tampo, sinasabi na, hindi na kinikimkim. Mas open na kami ngayon,'' she related.

The Pacquiaos recently opened a new store called ''Team Pacquiao Store'' in Ortigas.

Manny comes face-to-face with Krista

People's Champ Manny Pacquiao revealed that he has finally spoken with his rumored mistress Krista Ranillo at the shooting for the Metro Manila Film Festival entry ''Wapakman.''

Krista arrived in Manila on Dec. 6, after an extended stay in Los Angeles, California, where she went to watch Pacquiao's match with Cotto.

''Nung Linggo (Dec. 6), di kami nag-usap kasi iba 'yong eksena niya, iba 'yong eksena ko. Nagkita kami pero sandali lang,'' recounted Manny.

Asked if they talked about the undying controversy of their alleged affair, Manny responded: ''Wala na, tawa na lang kami. Sabi niya, 'Sana panoorin nila 'yong [pelikula] kahit grabe ang tsismis.'''

Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao in Asian Power banner

Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao in Asian Power banner. On the world sporting stage in 2009 as the region prepares for a bumper year of competition in 2010, Asia once again left its mark.

Among those making headlines was Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.

A hero at home, he proved this year to be the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet when he became the first man to win seven world titles in seven weight classes.

His victory over Miguel Cotto in November set him up for a blockbuster showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr next year and followed-up his stunning knock-out in May of Ricky Hatton.

President Gloria Arroyo led the nation’s celebrations.

“Once again, Filipino grit and determination triumphed over great odds,’’ said her spokesman, Cerge Remonde.

Another to shine was South Korean golfer Yang Yong-Eun, who held off a surging Tiger Woods to become Asia’s first Major winner when he won the US PGA Championship.

China’s Lin Dan also wrote his name in the history books when he became the first shuttler to win a third successive men’s singles title at the World Badminton Championships.

China dominated the event, winning four of the five trophies at stake —men’s singles and doubles, and women’s singles and doubles.

They also retained their Surdirman Cup world badminton team championship title, crushing South Korea in the final in Guangzhou.

In the pool, China boasted a swimming world record when Olympic champion Liu Zige demolished the women’s 200m butterfly mark at her National Games in October, an event marred by sprinter Wang Jing failing a doping test.

It all bodes well for next November when China hosts the Asian Games in Guangzhou.

Asia is also the venue for another big sports spectacle in 2010 when the Commonwealth Games come to New Delhi.

Once again, the Asia-Pacific played host to five Formula One Grand Prix with a sixth added next year when South Korea joins the circuit.

But Asia’s influence took a huge hit with Honda and Toyota pulling out of the sport and Japanese tyre manufacturer Bridgestone also quitting.

All cited the tough economic conditions.

Bucking the trend was Force India which went from strength-to-stength, while Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes is at the forefront of the return of Lotus.

The team will race in 2010 and are backed by 1Malaysia F1 Team Sdn Bhd, a public-private partnership involving a string of top local entrepreneurs, as well as Malaysian automaker Proton.

“It will help brand Malaysia and spur excellence in sports and education,’’ said Kamarudin Meranum, deputy chief executive of AirAsia, which is one of the team’s partners.

Some of the biggest names in sport ventured to Asia, with golfing superstar Woods drawing huge crowds to the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, which was won by Phil Mickelson, and the Australian Masters in Melbourne.

Barbie Hsu in new PETA ad

Barbie Hsu in new PETA ad. Barbie Hsu, actress of hit TV show Meteor Garden, who has been a vegetarian for years, unveiled a new print advertisement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Asia.

The ad shows Barbie holding a chick next to the tagline "Vegetarians Make Chicks Happy!". Barbie who has been called "The Queen of Beauty" is best known for her roles in Taiwanese dramas and numerous films.

She got her first big break with the hit TV show Meteor Garden, and she's the lead actor in the TV series Corner*With Love and the upcoming Summer of Bubbles. She earned a Best Actress nomination at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her recent movie Connected.

Animals are like my brothers and sisters, my friends and my family", says Barbie, who was voted Asia's Sexiest Vegetarian in PETA's annual poll this year. "We're all equal. I love [all animals]. That's why I won't eat them."

On factory farms, cows, pigs, chickens and other animals who are raised for their flesh are dehorned or debeaked and have their teeth, tails and testicles cut off all without painkillers. Animals are kept in crowded, filthy enclosures and are denied everything that is natural and important to them. At slaughterhouses, animals are routinely hung upside down before their throats are cut, and they are often skinned and scalded to death while still conscious.

Healthy vegetarian diets support a lifetime of good health and protect against heart disease, cancer and strokes. A vegetarian diet is also the easiest way to stay slim and sexy!

Barbie joins other international stars including Pamela Anderson, Natalie Portman, Sir Paul McCartney and Maggie Q who have kicked the meat habit. The ad was shot by photographer Chen Man. Barbie's stylist was Sheila Liao. Her makeup and hair was done by Chiu Ya-li.

Ruffa Gutierrez: Got emotional after DOJ decision on libel case of Richard against PEP

Ruffa Gutierrez: Got emotional after DOJ decision on libel case of Richard against PEP. In general press conference (December 13) of Shake, Rattle & Roll XI, in getting the reaction of Ruffa Gutierrez about the changing decision of Department of Justice (DOJ) about the libel case of Richard Gutierrez in PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

"I just would like to say that I am very thankful sa naging decision ng DOJ. Siyempre, nagulat ako sa news na yun. One thing I can say, I was really emotional that day. Yung talagang gusto kong yakapin si Chard nang mahigpit na mahigpit at gusto kong sabihin sa kanya na hindi natutulog si Bro, especially kapag alam mong wala kang kasalanan at alam mo that you're in the right. Yun, alam ko that the truth will always prevail.

"I think this Christmas is magiging masaya kaming lahat with the good news. Nakakalungkot na may mga kaso sa araw ng Pasko. But, nandiyan na 'yan, it's already in the court. So I can just say that we're very, very happy."

WHAT IF...

"Well, never pumasok sa utak ko 'yan," sagot niya. "Never ko naisip or never ko... na kapag tinitingnan ko sila nanghininayang ako na sana napunta sa akin si Zoren, completely wala. Maybe because I'm also happy and fulfilled with my life.

"At kahit na siguro wala akong partner ngayon, masaya naman ako. Choice ko naman na wala akong partner at choice ko naman na maging single. But I'm very happy with Carmina and Zoren and all the things that are happening in their lives. At talagang in all honesty, happy ako for them."

Di ba, like I said, time heals all wounds? Now, I'm very happy, I'm contented with Mina, with his kids. Wala na siyempreng bitterness sa buhay niya, ang tagal-tagal na nun. At saka siyempre kinausap na rin niya ako. Nakapag-move on na rin siya, nakapag-move on na rin ako," saad niya.

Entry sa 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival ang Shake, Rattle & Roll XI.

Bianca King: About kicked out Krista Ranillo's tent

Bianca King: About kicked out Krista Ranillo's tent. In the film Wapakman, actress Bianca King got an issue involving her and co-star Krista Ranillo's relative, Suzette Ranillo.

Yesterday on Showbiz Central, Bianca aired her feelings regarding the issue.

According to Bianca, one of the witnesses in the incident was the bodyguard who was supposedly asked by Suzette to get Bianca's things out of the tent. Afterwards, several text messages were sent to Bianca's handler that made everything worse for her.

But before all that, did she not request for her own tent in the first place to avoid sharing one with Krista?

"Of course not," said Bianca. "I'm kind of used to sharing naman my tent or dressing room with other stars. It's actually nice to create camaraderie among your co-stars."

So what happened to the taping last week? Were her things really taken out of the tent while she was shooting a scene?

"Once and for all, I just had to say it kasi [from] the very start para bahala na mga tao mag-judge," said Bianca. "So, I had already been told by someone from the production na bawal ako doon when I put my stuff in, so okay. I called up Arnold [Vegafria], my manager, and he called up Sir Wilson [Tieng], our producer, and Sir Wilson walked me back to the tent and told me, 'Stay here. Arnold and I said you stay here.' So I was sitting in the tent talking to Sir Wilson for five minutes and all my things were settled there. And then Krista arrived with her companions and we had a short conversation."

So was their conversation okay?

"Okay naman," said Bianca. "Nag-uusap kami at kuwentuhan tapos in-offer ko upuan ko, then I placed my makeup kit beside her stuff and I had to leave to shoot a scene. Pagbalik ko, wala pa siguro 30 minutes nakalipas, e, yung gamit ko nasa labas na."

Did she mean to say all her things were outside?

"Yeah, except my clothes," said Bianca.

When asked if anyone explained to her why her things are outside, she answered, "Nawindang ako nang kaunti tapos iyong bantay sa labas, sabi, e, nilagay sa labas kasi kukunin ko. Sabi ko sa kanya na wala naman akong sinasabi na ganoon, so I asked my yaya to put them back inside tapos sinabi sa akin na hindi ako puwede pumasok."

Is the tent off limits to Bianca or anybody for that matter?

"I heard na binibigyan ni Sir Wilson [Tieng, Solar Films head] ng instructions ang bodyguards na bawal media, bawal outsiders," related Bianca. "And noong nagkaharapan na kaming tatlo ni Krista and Arnold, e, Arnold mentioned that it was about the death threats."

At this point, Bianca exclaimed, "Teka, I have no intentions of killing her, so why am I discriminated against? Parang medyo weird 'yon."

Has Bianca felt at one point that Krista may have something against her?

"No," Bianca answered. "Siyempre naman hindi. Maraming beses na kaming magkasama ni Krista and, in fact, noong nag-out of town kami, e, we shared hotel room and everything. It was absolutely no reason for anyone from her camp to feel that I was a threat or would put her in danger."

How about the text messages she received? Did it contain anything that offended her?

"Ang laman ng text message na iyon mas mabuti na hindi ko na i-explain sa tao dahil ayoko na sirain pa sila lalo," said Bianca. "It was speaking in her defense against me and medyo gumamit ng masasakit na salita."

Some people say that Bianca may be exaggerating the issue. How does she feel about this?

"Noong nakita ko, sabi ko is this serious and am I being kicked out of the tent again? Napakamot lang ako," she said. "I called up my manager and doon ko binuhos ang sama ng loob ko. I made the mistake of not confronting the situation noong nangyari siya."

Does she expect any apology from Suzette Ranillo or Krista?

"Krista already apologized," admitted Bianca, "the day that it happened. She apologized for what her tita did. And then she told me she would have her tita apologized to me and I said na there's no need for an apology because hindi naman kami magkikita."

How does she see this in the long run?

"I think it's done," said Bianca. "I have nothing to hide... kaya lang naman siya nagiging big deal, hindi dahil sa akin, I'm not a big star..."

Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr.: Made sure victims were dead

Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr., made sure victims were dead. In Manila, Philippines last Nov. 23 were indeed dead, police said that Datu Unsay mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. made sure that the 57 people slain in the Maguindanao massacre.

Quoting several witnesses, Chief Superintendent Ericson Velasquez of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said Ampatuan Jr. himself approached the bloodied bodies of the victims and shot them again.

Velasquez also disclosed that aside from Ampatuan Jr., Maguindanao Gov. Andal Ampatuan Sr. and several other provincial and police officials were also tagged for their involvement in the carnage.

He said witnesses interviewed by investigators — including two militamen who participated in the killings — bolstered the findings of forensic and ballistics examinations that the bodies were shot at close range.

The younger Ampatuan has already been arrested and detained at the National Bureau of Investigation.

PNP chief director general Jesus Verzosa also recommended a cash reward for the arrest of the 161 massacre suspects who remain at large.

Verzosa said they received information that some of the suspects have already joined Muslim secessionist groups in the province.

Ampatuan Town massacre: From backhoe to chainsaw, probe set for 200 more Maguindanao killings

Ampatuan Town massacre: From backhoe to chainsaw, probe set for 200 more Maguindanao killings. 200 more murders took place in the Philippines’ southern province of Maguindanao, after 57 people were killed in the Ampatuan town massacre, there had been “hints" and “whispers.

Some of these victims were even chainsawed to death, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) said. "There were at least 200 killings in this ‘chainsaw massacre’... as to who they were we don't know yet," CHR chairperson Leila de Lima said.

She added that verifying these pieces of information would be the next goal of the human rights body. The agency is currently investigating the bloodbath that shocked the world, which included the murder of 30 journalists, on November 23.

"We only learned about this through word of mouth... through whispers," de Lima told reporters in a press conference organized by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines in Makati City on Wednesday.

De Lima said that when they went to Maguindanao to conduct a parallel investigation of the carnage, residents started coming up to her, telling stories of people being allegedly killed and buried in "mass graves" by the Ampatuan family.

These incidents reportedly took place after 2001, when the clan’s political power began to take hold on the province.

Further investigation has to be conducted to check veracity of the claims, but initial information reaching the CHR identified the towns of Shariff Aguak and Ampatuan as the areas were these graves could be found.

Besides personally speaking with residents, De Lima said she also conferred with "around four to five" police investigators who confirmed these reports.

Although the commission remains focused on the November 23 massacre, its next goal is to look into the "chainsaw massacre" in about "two weeks' time."

The CHR would be spearheading the new investigation but it will still coordinate with concerned agencies like the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The November 23 massacre gripped the world because of the brutal manner by which the victims were killed: a convoy of more than 50 people were stopped at a checkpoint, brought some three kilometers from the highway, shot to death, and buried using backhoes.

Marian Rivera: Fan in Japan embarrassed

Marian Rivera: Fan in Japan embarrassed. During recent sortie in Japan, Marian Rivera reportedly embarrassed an elderly female fan who asked for an autograph from the actress.

A source said that although Marian was told by handlers beforehand that the fan is a magazine publisher, the actress still cast aside the magazine the lady wanted sign because it only had Rhian Ramos and Dingdong Dantes on its cover.

That story may be unconfirmed, but it was certainly an accommodating Marian who showed up at the launch of "Darna: The Second Book."

The star crowed about songbird Regine Velasquez, who joined the series to play Elektra, one of her new nemesis.

"Hindi ko ini-expect na si Ate Regine ay papayag na maging kontrabida ni Darna. Malaking karangalan para sa akin iyon. At pag nagkita kami, ako mismo ang magpapasalamat sa kanya," she said.

On her rumored boyfriend Dingdong Dantes, Marian said she was surprised when she learned that he intends to give her three Christmas gifts, one of which---a "Darna" chair---she had already received.

"Nagulat talaga ko kasi ang dami pala niyang gift sa akin. To be honest, hindi ko pa alam ang ibibigay ko sa kanya."

She recounted how Dingdong presented the "Darna" chair.

"Nagulat ako kasi sabi niya, 'May upuan ka ba sa taping?' Sabi ko nasira.

"Tapos pagpunta ko sa 'Show Me Da Manny,' nakita ko [ang upuan]. Sabi ko, 'Wow, ang ganda naman nito, Darna!'

"May letter pa siya [Dingdong]. Sana raw ay magamit ko para maging komportable ako at makapag-rest ako. Nagulat talaga ako. Tumawag ako sa kanya at nag-thank you."

She summed up her special relationship with Dingdong, thus: "Siguro, sabihin na lang natin na habang tumatagal ang panahon, mas tumitindi ang saya ngayon."

GMA-7 executives are working for a project to reunite Marian and Dingdong onscreen.

"Hindi ko pa rin po alam ang title ng project namin, pero tinitiyak ko po na magbabalik-tambalan po kami next year ni Dingdong," said Marian.

Iza Calzado in Indie Film 'Dukot' Film review

Iza Calzado in Indie Film 'Dukot' Film review. ATD Entertainment’s “Dukot" is film maker, Joel Lamangan and writer, Bonifacio Ilagan enthusiastic but grim foray into the phenomenon of “desaparacidos” (literally, the disappeared) and extra-judicial killings.

This is no small wonder because both Ilagan and Lamangan were, and still are, political activists who "genuinely fight for freedom and democracy."

Because of their personal experiences in the underground movement, they were able to chronicle real and horrifying events onscreen.

Amid mass killings such as those in Ampatuan town and the country's slide down various human rights watchlists, the film "Dukot" is very timely.

Left-leaning mass leaders, journalists, community workers or activists turn up dead or are rendered missing.

Families and friends of these victims quickly point to the military, with their "enemies of the state" lists, or the government, with its dislike for the vaguely defined "insurgency", as the culprits.

The practice of taking hapless victims, then torturing and killing them, began en masse during the Martial Law period under former president Ferdinand Marcos. The term used then for the practice was "salvaging."

The characters in the story have varied political (or apolitical) persuasions, as seen in the point of view of former activist Maricel Salvacruz (Iza Calzado) and her apolitical onsceen mom (Gina Alajar).

This reflects the same opposing political persuasions usually dominating mainstream media and society.

The view of hardcore student activism, which may or may not lead to armed struggle or at the least, organizing masses and the peasants in the countryside, is enshrined in Junix Etrata's character (played by Allen Dizon), who has been the long-time boyfriend of Maricel.

The lovers, Junix and Maricel, however, are caught in an ideological deadlock of sorts when Maricel decides to "lie low" (meaning to halt connections or responsibilities with the left-wing organization of which she is a member) and also "cools off" her relationship with Junix.

Her boyfriend, meanwhile, clings to his revolutionary principles and stays with the movement, erstwhile romanticizing his feelings to girlfriend in the words: “Mahal kita habang panahon. (I will love you forever)”

Etrata's parents a public elementary school principal (played by Racquel Villavicencio) and a government employee (Robert Arevalo) are expectedly wary of their son's cause.

Salvacruz’s working-class father, meanwhile (reactionary as he is), is the antithesis of labor union organizers.

They end up dead by the gunshots of a motorcycle-riding man (as many news reports on extra-judicial killings go). These shady characters are presumably forces of private vigilantes or "agents of state-led terrorism."

Pulled out of their "normal lives", Junix and Maricel are suddenly captured by the military intelligence agents who believe they are members of the New People's Army.

Maricel is raped (considered a "daring" scene for Calzado) and Junix is burned by cigarettes or is administered electric shock.

Political spectrum

"Dukot" is eerily close to the reality of political ideologies and the roles that come with them.

From among the ranks of the cadres, there come breakaway groups, deep penetration agents (Benjie Felipe) and turncoats (Mon Confiado and Jim Pebanco).

The military's role (as shown by Pocholo Montes) is portrayed as a delicate balancing act requiring finesse in deception, but the paramilitary captors (led by John Apacible) are the typically dumb but ruthless state torturers.

The relationship between a pseudo-politically conscious photo-journalist (Emilio Garcia) with bourgeois (middle class) concerns, and a dedicated human rights advocate (Snooky Serna) symbolize the contrasting roles of media and socio-civic groups in helping bring justice for those "Decaparacidos."

All these personify the broad political spectrum that clash and interact until Junix and Maricel, the lovers, are killed.

As a message of hope, the couple's parents (antagonistic though they may be, in terms of their political beliefs), decide to look for them and bring them justice.

Haunting, disturbing

All the film's elements its plot, music, dialogue-- add to its melodrama and its haunting effects.

It is supposed to unseat the reader, by posing questions like "What are you, as a citizen, supposed to do about the issue?"

The film also poses the question of who is really promoting terrorism here the so-called leftists or state institutions?

The film is meant to disturb its audiences out of their comfort zones and consider things that are happening in society like unabated killings and kidnappings.

The hysterics in the film seem to highlight the urgency of the matter. The cast is dependable, notwithstanding Dizon whose acting seems somehow forced.

Nevertheless, political tales such as this one need not be mushy, but tend to do so in order that the message comes across.

An ironic fact is that only few theaters show “Dukot”, just like there are so few venues in mainstream media for alternative opinions and so-called "destabilizers."

It should have been exhibited in many venues, if anything, to enlighten the Filipino people about timely issues.

Watch Krista Ranillo is back in RP

Watch Krista Ranillo is back in RP. In the set of “Wapakman”, tight security was imposed in apparent effort to keep the media and crowd at bay.

Solar Films’ “Wapakman” features People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao and Krista Ranillo, who are rumored to be having an illicit affair.

"I cannot afford to have an incident. Malaking lugar 'yan, kaya maraming crowd... to protect not only her, but other members of the cast as well,” film producer Wilson Tieng explained.

Both Pacquiao, who plays the lead star in the movie, and the camp of Ranillo, the villainess in the film, have categorically denied the rumors. Ranillo’s manager, Arnold Vegafria, also dismissed reports that his ward is pregnant.

Ranillo has slipped quietly back into the country last week.

Reports said she left the Ninoy Aquino International Airport through the VIP exit to avoid the hordes of press who were waiting at the airport. Tieng said he did not make this arrangement.

The shooting for “Wapakman” has been delayed because of the controversy. The filming resumed immediately after Ranillo flew back to the country.

Since her return, the entertainment press has been in the hunt for the sexy actress to finally get her side of the story.

When asked if Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee, ever visited the set, Tieng said: “Nandoon naman ako ng hapon tapos bumalik ako ng gabi, wala naman si kumareng Jinkee.”

Meanwhile, reports said tight security will also be implemented in the set of ABS-CBN's "Tiyagong Bayawak," Ranillo’s upcoming television series.

Sharon Cuneta still mad, failed to receive inheritance of late father

Sharon Cuneta still mad, failed to receive inheritance of late father. Sharon Cuneta, the megastar in the Philippines, admitted that until today she is still mad after she and her family failed to receive any inheritance from the estate of her late father.

“Hanggang ngayon galit ako, masakit ang kalooban ko… marami akong kapatid na dine-deserve sana nila. I’m sure pinag-ipunan at pinaghirapan ng Tatay ko ‘yon para sa aming lahat. Ang nagyari iba ang yumaman,” Cuneta told “The Buzz.”

When asked what happened, she merely said: “Magaling siya, so siyempre wala kaming ebidensya. Siya ang pinagkatiwalaan. Bahala na si Lord, hindi naman natutulog ang Diyos.”

She added: “Unfair talaga... wala kaming minana. My mom, her house [pero] hindi ‘yong alam namin na dapat manahin namin. Hindi ‘yong sinabi ni Daddy.”

Cuneta is the daughter of the late Pablo Cuneta, mayor of Pasay City.

Cuneta maintained that the issue is not about money, pointing out that her earnings had probably surpassed that of her father's when he was still alive. She also said "it is not something that consumes me."

The "Megastar" argued that she is only fighting for what is right and what she and her family deserve.

“Ipaglalaban mo kung ano ang tama. Hindi ka naman makikipaglaban kung ano ang mali,” she said.

Maguindanao province under state of martial law

Maguindanao province under state of martial law. Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has officially placed Maguindanao province under a state of martial law.

"We are confident that this one is covered by the Constitution," said Ermita at a press briefing at the Palace.

The announcement was made days after hundreds of government troops were sent to the province, which would later raid armories of the powerful Ampatuan clan.

The Ampatuan family was implicated in a gruesome massacre two weeks ago that saw the murder of 57 persons, including women members of the rival Mangudadatu clan, human rights lawyers, and 31 media workers, in the worst incident of political violence in the nation's history. It has also been condemned world-wide as the worst loss of life of media professionals in one day in the history of journalism.

Reports received late Friday night said that the President had already issued an order imposing military rule in the province. However, when contacted by GMANews.TV, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde, denied the rumors. Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Affairs Jesus Dureza also said that he had no information.

Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao commander, Lt. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer, will function as military governor after the arrest of Maguindanao governor Andal Ampatuan Sr., the same report said.

However, the report failed to identify its sources. Ermita's announcement Saturday confirmed the first declaration of martial law in the Philippines since 1972 when then-president Ferdinand Marcos imposed martial law over the entire country.

Watch Mangudadatus: Martial Law to speed up justice
