Sandara Park and Lee Minho team up in TV commercial of OB Beer Cass 2X

Sandara Park and Lee Minho team up in TV commercial of OB Beer Cass 2X. 2NE1's female vocalist Sandara Park and "Boys Over Flowers" star Lee Minho will soon be seen together in a TV commercial.

The announcement came from "Showbiz News Ngayon" which cited allkpop.com, a website containing news about Asian superstars and celebrities, as its source.

The F4 leader and the former "Star Circle Quest" finalist, the SNN report said, were chosen because of their trendy image. They will be endorsing a brand of beer called OB Beer Cass 2X.

It also stated why Dara and Lee were chosen.

"We chose top stars Lee Minho and Sandara Park as their trendy image matches perfectly with the image of our Cass beer. We're staying in touch with the younger generation and this CF will start a new trend."

The statement was released by OB Beer's Marketing Manager.

The shooting for the commercial was completed on Aug. 25 in Gangnam, Seoul, Korea .In the commercial, Lee is shown playfully splashing beers with a slew of female extras and cavorting down the street until he gets into a Red Ferrari where Sandara is seated.

Sandara was in Manila for a three-day vacation from Aug. 13 to 15.

At the airport, Sandara said that she chose to spend her three days in the Philippines to catch up on her friends here especially her "Star Circle Quest" colleagues.

On her first day in the country, Sandara chatted with her fans through ABS-CBN Interactive. She also guested in "Ruffa & Ai" and "Entertainment Live."

Sandara met up with her former boyfriend Joseph Bitangcol in an event she arranged with fellow SCQ stars. Joseph felt uneasy at first but was able to connect with his now famous ex-girlfriend. He noticed that Sandara has become so trendy in her outfits and that she has improved immensely in her dancing.

Hero Angeles, the "Star Circle Quest" Grand Winner whom Sandara was paired with in two hit movies, was not able to see the Korean star. A text correspondence Manila Bulletin Online had with Hero's brother, Henry, confirmed it.

Before going back to Korea, Sandara and Hero were not able to patch up their differences. Hero is now with GMA-7 after he had a falling out with ABS-CBN.

Sandara's group 2NE1 is known for their hit singles "Fire" and "Lollipop."

Brian Viloria vs. Jesus Iribe Fight Results (more videos here)

Brian Viloria vs. Jesus Iribe Fight Results (more videos here). Brian Viloria, nicknamed “The Hawaiian Punch," won via unanimous decision over Iribe to successfully defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight title for the first time.

Good thing the Honolulu-born Brian Viloria, who had Filipino parents, did not disappoint his hometown fans beating Mexican challenger Jesus Iribe in the main event of “Island Assault" Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Blaisdell Center, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

“I just gave the fans old-fashioned boxing. I hope they all enjoyed it," said Viloria after the match. I just gave the fans a good show, wanted them to enjoy a good boxing match against (Iribe) who is one tough guy."

He was not yet even born when Honolulu hosted its first world title bout when Ben Villaflor of the Philippines fought Puerto Rican Samuel Serrano for the World Boxing Association to a draw on April 13, 1976.

Viloria’s win completed a sweep for the Philippines as AJ Banal and Dennis Laurente also outpointed their respective foes. He now holds to 26-2-0 (15 KOs).

Viloria, wanting a KO win, tried to bring down his opponent in the 12th round as he went toe-to-toe with Iribe, who managed to withstand the attacks of the Filipino champion, as the bell sounded to officially signal the end of the match.

His fight against Iribe was almost the same when he challenged Ulises Solis early this year where he scored an 11th round KO win to seize the IBF light flyweight crown.

Though failing to floor Iribe, Viloria chalked up enough points to complete the win against his tough Mexican foe. The fight went into scorecards with all three judges siding with Viloria: 118-110, 117-112 and 117-11.

Viloria made a grand entrance, coming out of the dugout like a Hawaiian king.

Two men, garbed in traditional Hawaiian outfits, blew conch shells to signal Viloria’s entrance. Hula girls, dancing to the tune of Hawaii Five-0, then came out as part of Viloria's entourage.

Iribe entered the ring with sounds of a Mariachi band at the background.

Viloria said he wants to unify the light flyweight crown as he plans to challenge World Boxing Organization champion Ivan Calderon, who will face Filipino Rodel Mayol on September 12 at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot, in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.

He and Calderon have a long history inside the ring. Viloria has beaten Calderon three times when both were still fighting as amateurs.

Filipino Pride. Earlier, AJ "Bazooka" Banal and Dennis Laurente defeated their respective Mexican opponents to serve as an appetizer for the Viloria-Iribe title bout.

Banal was even deducted by one point for a low blow in the 9th round but had piled up the points in the first eight rounds that gave him his 20th win (16 KOs) against one loss and one draw.

Laurente opened up the fight with a unanimous decision win over Zaid Zavaleta in their own 10-round light welterweight non-title fight.

All three judges ruled in favor of Laurente (100-90, 100-90 and 99-91). The Filipino southpaw now has a 32-3-5 record (16 by KO).

GMA 7 star Jolina Magdangal, wearing a Maria Clara dress; Juan Muñoz, playing a guitar; and Fil-Am singer and American Idol Season 3 third placer Jasmine Trias sang the national anthems of the Philippines, Mexico and the United States, respectively.

Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin on rumored break-up

Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin on rumored break-up. Talks are ripe that Luis Manzano and girlfriend Angel Locsin have called it quits after they were seen snubbing each other in an "ASAP" segment.

Luis Manzano was quick to admit that they are going through "something," but he refused to divulge details. "Whatever our reasons or disagreements...it's between us. No there's no third party involved," said he.

Prodded further, Vilma Santos' son said the issue was not because of scheduling. "It's not also [because we lack] time. We don't bother with that because we respect each other's schedules. We will never fight just because of something so petty [as time]."

Manzano is hopeful that they'll both be able to settle the matter soon.

"Right now, we're trying to work things out. Hopefully, we will be able to fix this."

It should be remembered that the couple almost broke up early this year with Locsin even changing her Facebook status to "not in a relationship."

Locsin is now in South Korea filming a TV commercial. Her manager, Becky Aguila, said she's clueless about the break-up issue and all she knows is that Angel and Luis had a misunderstanding.

Aguila also said that she and Angel are extending their stay in South Korea for a "vacation."

Lea Salonga in "Your Songs" concert

Lea Salonga in "Your Songs" concert. Two weeks after the website (www.LEAyoursongs.com) was published, AmbientMedia got more than 1,300 songs fans (and other interested parties) are requesting Lea Salonga to sing at her Lea Salonga...Your Songs concert on Dec. 11 and 12 at the PICC Plenary Hall.

“But it’s impossible for me to sing all of them even if I want to,” admitted Lea whose repertoire will consist of, as Funfare earlier mentioned, your and my favorite songs which Lea will very gladly sing for you and for me, for us. Produced by AmbientMedia, the concert will have Bobby Garcia as director and Lea’s brother Gerard as musical director, with Ai-Ai delas Alas, Richard Poon and the dance group Philippine All Stars as co-performers.

They will go by “gut” feel.

“We will go over the list which is not complete just yet because more and more suggestions are coming in,” added Lea. “We will probably choose the songs that I don’t usually sing in my concerts or those that are already available on DVD or CD, or those I don’t often sing or I’ve never done before. I suggest that they choose songs out of the box.”

But definitely, Lea will sing Bayan Ko which she sang at the wake of former Pres. Cory Aquino at the Manila Cathedral.

“I tried hard not to cry when I was singing,” recalled Lea. “ I sang it in all sincerity and honesty. I was actually trying to control my emotion.”

Asked what three songs he would like Lea to sing, Gerard named six.

“Either I Give My Life For You or Too Much For One Heart from Miss Saigon. Too Much For One Heart was excluded from the show but Lea sang it in 2002 in her Broadway concert here. Originally it was a solo but it became a duet retitled Please. Either I Dreamed A Dream or On My Own from Les Miz. And either Reflection from Mulan or A Whole New World from Aladdin.”

And what song would she not do?

“My brother and I are fans of Michael Jackson’s but I definitely wouldn’t do Billy Jean because that’s his territory,” said Lea. “That would be humorous on my part if I did it. I also know my limitations, you know. Maybe I would do one of his other songs that is hardly heard.”

A mom now (of three-year-old Nicole, her and husband Robert Chien’s first-born), Lea said that motherhood has somehow influenced the way she sings.

“I was 17 when I first sang I Give My Life For You at the auditions for Miss Saigon. The last time I sang it was during a concert in the US. Now that I am a mom, what goes on in my mind when I sing that song is completely different from what went on in my mind when I was 17,” said Lea who turned 38 last February. “My interpretation of a song may change based on how I’m growing and progressing as a human being.”

Now in nursery school, Nicole this early is showing signs of following in her mom’s footsteps.

“She recognizes my voice,” said Lea. “Late one night, we were watching YouTube; she wanted to watch Mulan. I was singing Reflection and she said, ‘Mommy singing. Mommyyyy!’ I played the same song by someone in Mandarin. She didn’t react, saying, ‘What’s that?’ She can tell if I’m the one singing.”

I guess Lea will have to sing Reflection (as Gerard suggested) in her Your Songs concert and dedicate it to Nicole.

Lady Gaga's Style & Fashion Scandal

Lady Gaga's Style & Fashion Scandal. An Irish rocker claims that pop star Lady Gaga stole her style, calling her "a poor imitation."

Did Lady Gaga steal her look from Irish electro ice-maiden Roisin Murphy? Yes she did, according to Murphy herself, who told Irish Central: "Lady Gaga is just a poor imitation of me. She has copied my style." And the pictures, courtesy of Idolator, would seem to bear her claims out:

Lady Gaga is far from the only musician to take visual clues from someone else. Manic Street Preachers started out aping the Clash, with their slogan T-shirts. Coldplay nicked their French revolutionary jackets from the Sgt. Pepper sleeve (via Arcade Fire). Elvis Presley pinched his "jumpsuit-era" look from comic book hero Captain Marvel Jr.

Neither is Gaga the first musician to come over all stalkerish in her commitment to aping another artist. Kasabian's Tom Meighan would clearly kill to be Liam Gallagher. Brandon Flowers flits between wanting to be Bruce Springsteen and wanting to be the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant. In La Roux's head, she's a cross between Annie Lennox and Adam Ant.

Watch the GMA-7 reality show Survivor Philippines Season 2 in Palau

Watch the GMA-7 reality show Survivor Philippines Season 2 in Palau. The show that changed the course of Philippine Reality TV will once again invade the airwaves as the newest season of Survivor Philippines sets off on August 17.

Bringing 16 castaways, the show, hosted by Paolo Bediones, took refuge in the unfamiliar territory of Palau. For 39 days, the castaways battled it out with one another vying for the title of the next Pinoy Sole Survivor. For TV series visit FILIPINO TV CHANNEL

Survivor Philippines: Palau opens with the Castaways making a 1.4 kilometer trek in a wild forest while carrying heavy ammo crates. A test of speed, agility, and strength came at play as they had to race towards the other end of the forest dragging the crates with them. A consequence faced the tribe losing the race. Which tribe emerged stronger?

Trapped in an island that once was home to one of the deadliest wars in history, the Castaways found themselves haunted by the ghosts of World War II. Overturned tanks, aging shipwrecks, and sunken planes were a common sight.

The Japanese-American war ruins were juxtaposed with the flawless beauty of the beaches of Palau and its rich marine life.

Marked by the success of the previous season, tactics and schemes in outwitting, outplaying, and outlasting in Survivor Philippines: Palau might prove to be meaner and more merciless.

Kristen Bell: Covers Cosmopolitan Magazine September 2009 issue

Kristen Bell: Covers Cosmopolitan Magazine September 2009 issue. Kristen Bell stays classic in black on the September 2009 cover of Cosmopolitan, on stands August 11. Here’s what the 29-year-old Heroes hottie spilled:

On being the voice of Gossip Girl: “I’m very proactive with my career. And when I heard about Gossip Girl, I called someone at the network and asked if I could do something on it. At that time, I didn’t have a job, and I’m not just some idiot who wants to hang out in L.A. — I want to work.”

On love and her relationship with comedian/actor Dax Shephard: “Every woman in her 20s goes through a period where she just doesn’t believe love is out there anymore, but it is. And I think the minute you stop looking for it is when it comes for you.”

Kristen Bell wants us to help her groom her dog. At least, that’s what her publicist tells us...but we don’t really believe she’ll actually be wielding shears. Kristen has starred in hit movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, has been a regular on TV shows like Heroes, and is the deliciously wicked narrator of Gossip Girl — we figure she’ll just stand to the side while some high-priced doggie stylist to the stars ties pink ribbons in her pooch’s hair.

But when we arrive at her house in the Hollywood Hills, we’re greeted by Lola, an adorably fluffy chow chow–corgi mix, and Kristen — hair in a ponytail, dressed in an old pair of jeans and a bright blue hoodie. Soon we’re hunkered down on the hardwood floor of her spacious living room, looking on as Kristen trims Lola to look like a lion.

As she shaves in a poofy mane, the 29-year-old Michigan native talks about hanging out in her amazing house, where she likes to host American Idol parties. “On the nights when we’re all together,” she begins, “my roommates and I all cook dinner.”

Hold on. Doing her own dog trimming is one thing, but roommates? Um, can’t she afford to live alone?

Find out the answer and get the rest of Kristen Bell's cover interview in the September 2009 issue of Cosmo, on stands now!

Oprah's "Most Talented Kid", Julia Abueva is "proud to be Pinoy"

Oprah's "Most Talented Kid", Julia Abueva is "proud to be Pinoy". Thirteen year-old Julia Abueva has been called a lot of things: child prodigy, amazing performer, teen sensation. The Singapore-based young singer, whose parents are both Filipino, says one tag is the most special—she is proud to be a Filipino.

"It's awesome! I'm proud to be Pinoy," said Julia, who was featured in the "Smartest and Most Talented Kids" segment of popular talk show Oprah November last year. At her tender age, she has already performed in hundreds of concerts and events in several countries around the world.

Julia's family moved to Singapore when she was four years old. Since then, she has gone back and forth to the Philippines for various concert performances. At the age of eight, she was a guest artist in the individual concerts of Pinay theater actresses Monique Wilson and Lea Salonga. She was also the voice behind "We're All Just One," the official hymn of the 23rd Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines in 2005.

Julia, granddaughter of National Artist for Sculpture Napoleon Abueva, also has had the honor of performing before presidents, royalty, and foreign dignitaries of countries like China, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the USA.

The Oprah citation, therefore, is well-deserved. Julia, however, did not have time to sing in the show. She said the episode coincided with her first solo sold-out concert held in Esplanade, Singapore.

Despite the acclaim in foreign countries, Julia said she misses the Philippines at times. Several Filipino habits cheer her up.

"You know I get really homesick when I'm in Singapore. Sometimes I miss the Philippines so much. So what I do, I just eat adobo, then I get my old Pinoy movies and I watch it all day," Julia told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the launch of Encore, the new premier school for the performing arts in the Philippines, held yesterday, August 11, at Mag:net Café in Taguig City.

PEP asked the talented singer, who now sits as the new school's creative consultant, about the Pinoy movies that she loves.

"I like the love stories... those with Richard Gutierrez, John Lloyd Cruz, KC Concepcion," she said.

But since these movies are in Filipino, does she have a hard time understanding them? Can she still speak the language?

"Kaunti lang. 'Salamat po', 'mahal kita', ganyan," Julia said.

DREAMS OF STARDOM. The child prodigy said she was born to perform.

"Ever since I was small I always had this thing for performing. Like in parties I would always grab the mic and start singing when no one else wanted to," Julia said.

Julia added that as a child, she had memorized the themes of several Disney movies. At three years old, she learned how to use the VHS, and so she would spend entire mornings watching the movie Annie again and again.

Her big break came when she was seven years old. Her first performance was a guesting in another female singer's concert in Singapore, where she sang three songs.

Now at 13, she has already released a successful CD single in Singapore. A full-length album is also in the works for next year.

Julia believes she can ultimately break out as a pop star in Hollywood. She also dreams to be a big Broadway star.

But since she's a true-blue Pinay, would she be willing to relocate to the Philippines just to pursue another career?

"You know, if there are opportunities here I would like to try because at my age it's best to take whatever opportunities come my way and see how I feel about it. Kinda just experience everything," Julia said.

Nadine Samonte: Expresses her disappointment over her "one-of-those" role in Darna

Nadine Samonte: Expresses her disappointment over her "one-of-those" role in Darna.

I don't mind playing kontrabida roles, pero sa nangyayari, nagiging one of those lang ako.

"Bakit ganoon? Samantalang may mga bago diyan, ngayon lang sumulpot, biglang bida agad! Hindi sa nai-insecure ako, pero you can't help but ask, di ba?

"But, it wasn't a regular thing," sambit ni Nadine.

MIGRATING TO GERMANY.

Roxanne Barcelo, former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate, patience and hardwork pays off

Roxanne Barcelo, former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate, patience and hardwork pays off. The lack of projects brought out the best in former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate Roxanne Barcelo.

"I experienced yong walang-wala ka talagang work and sobrang humbling for me na alam mo lang kung ano'ng gusto mong gawin sa buhay mo, pero the opportunities, hindi dumarating. Yong parang sobrang daming temptations to move out of this business and to try something else, na baka you're good at something else. I don't know, I was even thinking of selling condominiums and getting into marketing, advertising.

"Ang dami kong inisip na ibang bagay na pasukin pero inisip ko na lang na siguro hindi ako hahayaan ng Panginoon na mawalan ng passion o hindi niya ibibigay yong passion sa heart ko kung hindi naman niya rin ako ibi-bless."

PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had the chance to talk to Roxanne at the grand press conference of Marian Rivera's upcoming fantasy primetime series, Darna, last August 3. The event was staged at Studio 5 of the GMA Network Center in Quezon City. Roxanne was tapped by the Kapuso Network to play the role of Narda's bestfriend, Aleli.

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. Though frustration would most of the time sink in, Roxanne stressed that never did she felt disheartened with the slow progress of her career.

"I never believed kasi in the word depression," said Roxanne candidly. "Parang you never allow yourself to feel depressed o mag-self-pity. It's just an opportunity for you to be humbled, and kumbaga, to work harder."

The inconsistent flow of projects prompted Roxanne to personally scout for auditions—a fact she takes utmost pride in announcing despite the wrong placed negative connotation expressed by narrow-minded individuals.

"People can say whatever they want to say. But, honestly, on my part, it's like you're looking for a job. And in our industry, how can you look for a job? You audition.

"Para sa akin, I didn't hear kung saan yong mga audition for shows. So, what I did is I audition for the things I see on TV, nababasa ko sa diyaryo and ganun talaga."

Roxanne, however, admitted that jumping from one audition to another can also be tiring regardless of an individual's competitive nature. And that was the main reason why she slowed down considerably after her PBB stint in 2006.

Not being seen frequently in television doesn't mean that Roxanne's showbiz career was toiling in obscurity. In fact, she has been hosting the educational pre-school show, Batang Bibbo! since last year.

But landing a primetime program much more an ambitious project like Darna understandably is an entirely different story.

"Ang saya! Sobrang saya!" Roxanne said enthusiastically. "It's the first time na I can say na if you persevere and wait patiently, plans that you made way back, they will happen."
